Title

Ancient Mediterranean: relief map

Description

Israel is located on the eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea, between the Sinai Peninsula, the Arabian Peninsula, and Syria. Other important regions include Italy, Greece, and Asia Minor, which make up the northern edge of the Mediterranean, and the inland region of Mesopotamia, which is bounded by the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. Mesopotamia and the eastern shore of the Mediterranean constitute the 'Fertile Crescent' around the arid desert that makes up most of the Arabian Peninsula. To the south of the Mediterranean (the bottom left of the picture) is the region of North Africa, the territory of modern countries such as Egypt, Libya, Tunisia and Algeria.
