Title

Samaria Sabaste: Hellenistic Round Tower

Description

This round stone tower dates to the Early Hellenistic period and was part of the defenses of the city of Samaria, which is located in the central and northern parts of the Central Hill. It is possible that this tower is evidence of the Greek occupation of the city at the time of Alexander the Great, as this style of tower had been used in Greece in the previous century and it became increasingly popular in later periods.
