Title
Caesarea Maritima: city street
Description
This photograph shows one of the city streets in Caesarea, which was built by King Herod as a port city on the Mediterranean cost. Two seated statues can be seen facing each other across the street. When Herod's son Archaeleus was deposed in 6 CE, the Roman procurator assigned to govern the area made his residence here, and Judaea was administered from this lavish seaside city.
