Title

Negev Desert: Middle Bronze Age I Architecture

Description

This photograph shows a simple one-room 'round house' in the Negev Desert that was built around 2,000 BCE. The pillar in the middle of the room supported the roof. It seems that they were used only for sleeping quarters: all cooking ovens and other small installations were found outside the rooms. It is possible, perhaps even likely, that these houses were only used on a seasonal basis by pastoral groups: no cultivated grains were found in soil samples and no burials were found.
