Title

The Vatican: Codex Vaticanus

Description

This photograph shows a page from the Codex Vaticanus, which was created in the 4th century CE and is arguably the most important ancient manuscript of the Greek Bible. Codex Vaticanus originally contained both the Old and the New Testaments, but only 759 of the original 820 pages have survived. However, it is an extremely high quality text and it serves as the basis for a number of authoritative editions of the Bible. It was acquired by the Vatican in the 15th century CE.
